Abstract

Abstract. The essential points of Grice's cooperative pragmatics principle and the meaning of the linguistic phenomena of humor are briefly covered in this paper's abstract. The technique of developing funny through willful breach of the cooperative principle in communication is then listed, using the hit sitcom Friends as an example, in order to help readers better comprehend how English humor is generated and to pique their interest in learning.
